The IDE Hard Drive Enclosure – A Super Cheap Storage Solution

If you need extra storage on your computer and you don’t have a lot of money to spend, then an IDE hard drive enclosure is your perfect choice. You can use it for practically any purpose, including data backup and retrieval. This is a very important function, as it is not unusual for computers to crash and their contents be lost for no apparent reason or unexpected reasons.

Protect Your Data Before it is Lost

For example, a lightning strike nearby could damage your computer and cause you to lose access to your operating system, which would mean your data would not be able to be accessed, either. If you had a hard drive enclosure, you could have either backed up your data ahead of time (at regular intervals) and saved it, or at least had a means to extract the hidden data without having to resort to taking your computer to an expensive computer repair specialist. Even something as innocent as dust in your regular hard drive can cause a computer crash, as can viruses and corrupt files, a service pack install gone wrong, and a variety of other things. If you store a lot of data on your computer, you NEED a hard drive enclosure to keep it safe.

Do you have IDE or SATA Drives?

When you consider using an IDE hard drive enclosure, you need to first determine if the drives you have are IDE or SATA drives. You can find this out before even going to the store by looking at your hard drive for the connectors. IDE (sometimes called ATA) hard drives have longer connectors with two rows of pins that stick out in plain view. A SATA hard drive has smaller connectors and two plastic tabs with metal contacts instead of the rows of pins.

How Hard is it to Install?

The IDE hard drive enclosure comes with everything you need to make sure it works right out of the box. This includes any necessary cables, screws, and other connecting hardware to get the machine up and running. It has an extra large memory storage capacity, so if you download a lot of music, movies, TV shows, ebooks, or other large files, you should consider copying these things, along with any important documents, over to your hard drive enclosure to protect the data from damage from only being on your main computer. This way, if your computer ever does crash, you will have all of your most important data already backed up and ready to install on your new computer, or someone else’s computer.

It is a good idea to make a regular habit of backing up your data onto your enclosure, such as once a week or once a month at a minimum, to make sure any losses you might sustain are minimal. The best thing about an IDE hard drive enclosure is that they are cheap and IDE drives themselves are cheap as well.  This is truly the hard drive enclosure for almost anyone with some spare IDE hard drives laying around.
